Total Eclipse Of The Heart - Bonnie Tyler

Bonnie Tyler es una cantante galesa, nacida con el nombre de Gaynor Hopkins el 8 de junio de 1953 en Skewen, Neath. Llegó al mundo en medio de una gran familia trabajadora de seis hijos; su padre trabajaba como minero mientras que su madre, una fan de la ópera, compartió su amor por la música con sus hijos. Cuando era adolescente, cantó con un grupo llamado Bobby Wayne And The Dixies, después del cual formó su propia banda, llamada Imagination. Adoptando diferentes nombres escénicos hasta establecerse definitivamente como Bonnie Tyler, durante casi una década ella y su banda actuaron en pubs y nightclubs a lo largo de todo el sur de Gales.

Su álbum, "Faster Than the Speed of Night", fue un número uno en ventas internacionales y el sencillo "Total Eclipse of the Heart", escrito por Jim Steinman, alcanzó el primer puesto en las listas de todo el mundo, permaneciendo en esa posición durante varias semanas. El álbum (de ventas multimillonarias) supuso un huracán en el mundo de la música, debutando como número 1 en las listas británicas y se convertiría en un álbum considerado por los melómanos del rock como una obra maestra operística con atronadores cánones Tchaikovskianos. En la gala de los Oscar de 1984, la conmovedora interpretación de "Total Eclipse of the Heart" consiguió echar abajo el edificio en lo que hasta entonces había sido una de las galas de entrega de premios más aburrida de la historia. Ese mismo año volvió a recibir una nominación a los Grammy como Mejor Vocalista Femenina de Rock por la canción "Here She Comes".

Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor

Formado en el frío invierno de Chicago de 1977, la formación original de Survivor consistió en Frankie Sullivan, Jim Peterik, Dave Bickler, Dennis Johnson, y Gary Smith.
Es tal vez uno de los temas más reconocibles desde los primeros segundos gracias al poderoso y electrizante riff de guitarra con que comienza Eye of the tiger. Este tema habitualmente no se ha asociado a sus creadores, sino con la película: Rocky III. La tercera entrega cinematográfica del boxeador italoamericano encontró en este tema un nuevo leitmotiv junto a aquel Gonna fly now de Bill Conti. Survivor repetiría la experiencia con Man against the world y Burning heart en la cuarta entrega de la saga pero ya sin repetir el éxito cosechado por aquella “mirada del tigre”.

William Martín (Billy) Joel (nacido el 9 de mayo de 1949 en Hicksville, Long Island, Nueva York, Estados Unidos) es un cantante, compositor y pianista estadounidense.

Big in Japan - Alphaville

Alphaville es un grupo de música alemán de Synth-pop que fue muy popular en los años 80's. En un principio se llamaban Forever Young pero a la hora de sacar el primer disco, decidierón llamarse Alphaville. La composición original del grupo estaba formada por los siguientes artistas: Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd y Frank Mertens. Este último, ante la presión del éxito del primer disco, no aguantó y abandonó el grupo. A partir de 1982 empezaron a publicar sencillos como "Big in Japan" y "Forever Young" pero no sería hasta 1984 y después del rotundo éxito de sus dos sencillos, cuando publicasen su primer álbum. La salida de Mertens en diciembre de 1984, provocó el inminente fichaje de Ricky Echolette y el primer disco con el en el grupo y segundo de Alphaville seria Afternoons In Utopia en junio del 86 precedido del éxito del tema Dance With Me.

True - Spandau Ballet

Steve Dagger era hijo de un tendero del mercado de Berwick Street, en pleno soho. Fue uno de los primeros en vestir a la moda "New Romantic" a principios de la década de los 80's. Le gustaba vestir bien, con el pelo bien cortado, con camisas de fantasía... Steve solía ir al club londinense Kilt a tomarse un par de cervezas y fue allí donde decidió hacerse manager de una panda de amigos que tenían las mismas inquietudes que él. Cuatro de esos chicos ensayaban bajo el nombre de "The Makers" (Martin Kemp llegó mas tarde) con el patrocinio de Gary Kemp. Su revolución no era musical, si no mas bien estética, querían huir de la moda del punk, que en aquellos años estaba en auge y ser pioneros como "New Romantics". Acogieron como suyo el Kilt, que al principio fue punto de reunión de algunas comunidades árabes en Londres, también iban a bailar al club St.Moritz, escuchaban canciones de Frank Sinatra o Marlene Dietrich, mezcladas por el DJ Robert Elms. En ese ambiente nació Spandau Ballet.

Los Spandau Ballet hicieron su primera aparición real en noviembre de 1979 ante una audiencia de un grupo de amigos, diseñadores de ropa, discjockeys de vanguardia, músicos post-punk de renovado prestigio. Actuaron en varios locales, en el Scala, el Blitz y en el buque de guerra HMS-Belfast, todavía actualmente ancado en el tamesis.

En el año 1983 lanzan "TRUE", posiblemente el mejor álbum de Spandau Ballet. Con "True" arrasaron, actuando en estadios de fútbol y convirtiéndose en un grupo de masas.

Toto es una banda estadounidense de Blues, y Rock'n Roll, entre otros; que tuvo éxito comercial en la década de 1980.

1982 fue el año clave para la carrera del grupo; se grabó el tercer sencillo, "Africa", una de las mejores canciones de la historia y todo un clásico. Africa entró entre los tres primeros lugares de las listas de éxitos en Norteamérica e Inglaterra. Vendieron 2 millones de copias. En la 25° entrega de los Grammys en febrero de ese año Toto ganó 6 Grammys.

Thriller - Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson cantante, compositor y bailarín estadounidense de música pop. Es Conocido mundialmente como el Rey del Pop.

Fue, sin embargo, en 1982 cuando publica el álbum Thriller con el cual se transforma en una megaestrella del espectáculo y de los más famosos del mundo siendo el primer artista en obtener dos estrellas en el paseo de la fama en Hollywood. El álbum es desde entonces el más vendido de la historia, con más de 60 millones de copias. En dicho albúm Jackson demuestra sus dotes sobresalientes de bailarín y cantante a la vez.

El éxito se debió en buena parte al videoclip, dando forma a la famosa MTV y así revolucionando la cultura del videoclip como promoción musical. Extraído del single Thriller, un cortometraje de John Landis, de más de 13 minutos de duración en el cual Michael Jackson impacta y maravilla al mundo convirtiéndose en hombre lobo y más tarde en zombie, acompañado de una coreografía y música innovadora y revolucionaria.

Take On Me - A-Ha

Esta banda noruega de nombre onomatopéyico tuvo su momento de gloria en la primera mitad de los 80's, cuando el éxito de su álbum debut Hunting high and low (1985) y especialmente de su tema “Take on me” los ubicó en los primeros puestos de los charts británicos y estadounidenses. Más allá de su música (un synth pop elaborado y pegadizo), el componente visual estaba de su parte: a partir del histórico clip de “Take on me” (el cual combinaba animación con actores de carne y hueso, todo un elemento vanguardista para la época), el cantante Morten Harket se convirtió en uno de los principales sex symbols de la escena musical.
