Father And Son - Cat Stevens

Yusuf Islam, es un artista británico mejor conocido como Cat Stevens. Nació con el nombre Stephen Demetre Georgiou, hijo de madre sueca y de padre griego chipriota. Cuando tenía 8 años, sus padres se separaron pero siguieron conviviendo como familia en la misma casa. Habitaban el piso superior del restaurante de su propiedad, donde todos trabajaban.

Su primer instrumento musical fue el gran piano que había en la casa. No sólo por parte de padre y madre asimiló diferentes culturas en su infancia, sino que su casa estaba además abierta a diferentes amigos y familiares. Musicalmente es el heredero de una formación clásica pero también del amor por lo popular y por las danzas y canciones folklóricas griegas que escuchaba su padre.

A los 15 años descubrió que quería ser un músico y poco después que, además, quería ser una estrella pop.

Con el nombre artístico Cat Stevens, vendió millones de discos especialmente en los años 1960 y 1970.

Después de una experiencia cercana a la muerte decidió convertirse al islam y abandonar la música alrededor de 1978. Es entonces cuando adoptó el nombre Yusuf Islam.
